Release date: August 14, 2026
Caterpillar officially announced the launch of the D series flagship model CAT 340D2L with an extended chassis hydraulic excavator, replacing the classic 340DL model. Relying on the mature C9 powertrain and optimized hydraulic architecture, it has achieved comprehensive upgrades in power, fuel consumption, overall durability, and operational stability. It is specifically designed for high-intensity scenarios such as 40-ton heavy earthwork, mining quarrying, infrastructure stripping, and construction waste treatment, balancing operational efficiency and long-term operating cost control. It is delivered to the global infrastructure and mining markets as high-reliability heavy-duty construction equipment.
1. Power core: C9 ACERT high-efficiency engine, powerful and fuel-efficient
The entire machine is equipped with the original Caterpillar C9 inline six-cylinder diesel engine, with a rated net power of 208kW, meeting European Tier 2 and Chinese National II emission standards; compared to the previous model, fuel consumption is reduced by 7%, and it can stably output power within a range of 2300 meters at high and low altitudes. It is equipped with an economy / heavy-duty dual operation mode, providing full power for heavy-duty excavation, strictly controlling fuel consumption during earthwork operations, and significantly reducing construction site operating expenses.
2. Hydraulic system re-tuned, faster circulation and precise control
The main hydraulic system has been re-optimized for pressure relief and flow ratio, with a maximum system flow of 530L/min, significantly reducing hydraulic loss, and improving the cycle speed of combined actions such as digging, rotation, and bucket retraction; it supports various attachments such as breaker hammers and wood grabbers, with a gentle control lever, and is less prone to fatigue during long-term operation. It operates smoothly and stably for earthwork crushing and hard soil excavation.
3. Extended chassis strengthens structure, stability in harsh terrains is maximized
The model suffix L represents an extended and widened crawler chassis, with a track width 13% wider than 336D2L, and the overall working weight is 38.9-41.5 tons, with an increase of 65% in ground clearance; the frame, walking chassis, and upper and lower arms are all thickened and reinforced, making it less prone to rollover on heavy-duty climbing, soft muddy terrains, and less likely to fail due to impact in mining rock crushing environments, significantly reducing downtime.
4. Upgrade in driver's comfort and durability, more reliable long-term operation
The driver's cabin space has been expanded, and the cabin height has been raised by 9%, providing a wider field of vision; the sealed pressurized cabin isolates dust, and the standard air-conditioned and shock-absorbing suspension seat is equipped; the structural components and wear parts of the entire machine have undergone durability tests in mining scenarios, with strong original parts compatibility, convenient maintenance, and a complete quality assurance system.
5. Applicable working conditions
Open-pit mining, large-scale earthwork transportation, rock crushing and demolition, deep excavation of infrastructure pits, waste and residue transportation, road base repair, large-scale construction land clearing operations
6. Equipment total parameters reference
Overall machine weight: 38900-41500kg | Bucket capacity: 1.9-2.41m³
Rotary speed: 8.3rpm | Maximum climbing ability: 30°
